Gender Identify and Inclusion in Sport: Pre-Season Chats
Our goal as a minor hockey association is to create a
safe and fun environment for our players and children. As a result of an
incident in an Ontario hockey community in the 2012-2013 season, a human rights
complaint was filed surrounding inclusion rights of a the transgender
community. As part of the settlement, Hockey Canada and the Ontario Hockey
Federation (OHF) have taken steps for every hockey association to deliver a
mandatory Pre-Season chat to parents and players that will emphasis the
inclusiveness and respect of all individuals involved in this game.
To assist in the delivery of this message and support our parents, players and volunteers, Bradford Minor Hockey has formed an Inclusion Committee to help support this message. This committee will be composed of Rob Matthews (VP Operations), Dave Sedgewick (Risk Management Director) and Jay Zealand (VP House league). We will be meeting with each team (House League, Local League & Rep) to deliver this message of Inclusiveness & Respect within the first few weeks of the season.
The exact date and time will be arranged with your teams coach in coordination with a team practice, and advance notice will be provided. This pre-season chat will be an open invitation for all parents and players to attend. Hockey Canada, Ontario Hockey Federation and Bradford Minor Hockey thank you for your continued assistance in creating an inclusive environment for all our athletes.
